Today we’re going to take a look at a great podcast that if you love the medium that you either are listening to or should be. Video shows are increasingly popular, with many people viewing those as the default when they think of the word podcast. I won’t get on my RSS soapbox today but I will say that I prefer a great audio experience over everything.

Twenty Thousand Hertz is the podcast for audio nerds. The host, Dallas Taylor, delves into incredibly interesting details about the creation, uses, and effects of sound in our lives. Ever wondered about that scream heard in basically every action movie? They have an episode on the Wilhelm scream. They did a two part episode on Mel Blanc, the voice of the childhood of so many since he was the voice actor behind Bugs Bunny and essentially every other character on Looney Tunes.
Some of my favorite episodes include the one that covered the creation of the ta-dum Netflix audio logo and the one about the “booj” sound behind almost every movie trailer made these days.
I also love how they do ads. They make them almost essential listening due to each episode’s mystery sound and chance to win a free t-shirt. I’ve known the mystery sound several times but never entered to win but it’s still super fun to see if you know where that week’s sound is from and hear the answer from the previous episode. This is done in between ads so it makes them basically unskippable.
If you already love podcasts and audio and are not listening to Twenty Thousand Hertz, you should definitely give it a try.
